Angiotensin 2 is a powerful substance that initiates the
contractions of muscles around the vessels and shrinks these
vessels. Narrow blood vessels increase the blood pressure and cause
hypertension. The formation of Angiotensin 2 is initiated by the
presence of angiotensin 1 in the body by the enzyme that converts
angiotensin. These inhibitors are drugs that slow or decrease the
effect of this enzyme, decreasing the formation of Angiotensin 2.
The vessels then dilate and blood pressure reduces. This process in
the blood and varying pressure can bring an improvement in the
functioning of a damaged heart. Additionally the ailing condition of
the kidney also begins to improve.
It is generally known that the interaction of Lisinopril may cause
dangerous increases of blood potassium levels. Thus it is in the
best interests of the patient to not take Lisinopril - Zestril with
potassium supplements. It is the best precaution.
